Climate change means abrupt shifts in temperature and weather. Some of these shifts occur naturally, while others result from human activities such as burning fossil fuels like coal, oil and gas. Burning fossil fuels produces greenhouse emissions that act like a blanket wrapped around the Earth, trapping the sun's heat and raising temperatures.

The United Nations Environment Programme estimates that countries must double their pledges under the Paris Agreement within the next decade to limit global warming or climate change To 2 °C. Many reports found that the sudden change was the rising elevation of the freezing threshold.

These reports found that global warming had pushed the altitude at which ground remains frozen upward by 100 meters. This exposes rock at increasingly high elevations to longer periods above freezing, causing cracks within the ice while weakening the rock face beneath the ice.

Glaciers have been losing mass for decades, 1.6 feet of thinning each year.

The Himalayan region has 63,000 glaciers in this area and feeds 10 major Asian rivers, supporting the food, water and energy security of billions of people.

Conclusion 

Climate change, largely driven by greenhouse gas emissions, is heating the planet and destabilizing high-mountain environments. As temperatures climb, glaciers melt and retreat more quickly, removing the ice that once supported steep slopes. At the same time, permafrost thaws, weakening the rocky foundations beneath glaciers, while more meltwater seeps into cracks and lubricates potential failure planes. Together, these processes make sudden glacier and rock collapses more likely, which can set off deadly landslides and glacial lake outburst floods. The Himalayas, warming faster than the global average, illustrate this growing hazard and highlight the pressing need for climate mitigation and mountain risk management.
